Himara antiquity is presented in the old part of the city, which is situated on the hill located on the right side of the present city. There are ruins of the walls
of the old castle (century IV BC until century XVI), which was built as a fortress for the Epirus tribe of Kaons and witness the resistance in centuries of Himara people for freedom and independence. The whole region is characterized by high mountains falling steeply to meet a crystal clear sea. There are long white sandy beaches and the few hills close to the sea are generally terraced and planted with olive, orange and citrus trees.
